“Diogenes” is founded in 2010 with the aim of assisting homeless and related vulnerable populations in Greece. They have undertaken two main activities: the publishing of the only greek street paper “Shedia”, which is the newest member of the International Network of Street Papers (INSP, www.street-papers.org). Street publications are independent magazines that provide unique employment opportunities for people experiencing poverty, homelessness and long-term unemployment. Vendors buy copies at a price of 50% or lower than the cover price, then sell them, keeping the proceeds. It is a unique employment opportunity, enabling the world's most disadvantaged people to earn a dignified income and rebuild their lives. In addition, the organization runs the campaign “Kick out Poverty”, with the creation of the National Homeless Football Team and its participation annually in the Homeless World Cup. |
